I am not a very religious Jew but I knew I wanted to go to the mikvah before my marriage. I was a bit hesitant but I had some lessons with an incredibly warm and progressive rebbetzin so I was quite excited about it.
The experience was much mor spiritual and uplifting than I imagined. The mikvah in South Manchester was immaculate, like a spa, and the lady running it was so warm and kind. She made me feel very comfortable and happy. Afterwards, when I'd wrapped myself up, she asked if she could give me a kiss - it was a very special moment, I didn't really know the lady, but I think she made this one of the most positive Jewish experiences I have ever had!
