Join Mikvat Shalom on Sunday, July 25, as
we officially reopen and sanctify our newly renovated mikvah. The mikvah
(ritual bath) will be open to those who want a tour. Mikvat Shalom
Board members will be on hand to discuss ritual uses of the mikvah and
the vision of Mikvat Shalom. Light refreshments will be provided, and
there will be a brief program, including words of welcome from area
rabbis.
A mikvah is considered an essential
element of a Jewish community. Mikvat Shaloms vision is to make it
possible for all Jews to learn about the tradition of ritual immersion
and the ways individuals can use the mikvah to enrich their lives. We
are committed to maintaining a kosher mikvah that is welcoming, as well
as being a vital local resource that strengthens our community.
Mikvat Shalom, an independent nonprofit
organization, represents the diversity of Maines Jewish community. Our
board has members of Chabad, Modern Orthodox, Conservative, Reform and
non-denominational congregations. We believe we are the only mikvah in
the US that brings together Jews from such a wide spectrum of Jewish
practice.
Many faith traditions have a water ritual;
come and learn about ours.
