N.Y. A new, updated and thorough checklist is now
available on Mikvah.org
to assist women with their mivkah preparations. This project, with the
active
participation of Taharas Hamishpacha International, was conceived and directed
by Mrs. Miriam Yerushalmi.
Miriam holds a Masters Degree in Marriage and Family
Counseling and Bachelors in
Psychology and Child Development. This checklist has been reviewed and approved
by Rabbi Sholom Ber Chaikin of Cleveland, Ohio and can be used by all women.
The reason for producing this list was to alleviate the pressure women feel
during these preparations and allow them to add more simcha to their observance
of this important mitzvah, Yerushalmi says.
The checklist guides the detailed process of preparing oneself for their mikvah
immersion. Its purpose is to enable the preparations to progress in a smooth
and
efficient manner.
This updated
version can currently be seen on mikvah.org and is now available in a
laminated version, designed to be reusable. It has an easy to use list where
one checks off each step of their mikvah preparations as they are completed.
This is especially useful for those who tend to be forgetful and could be
helpful for those suffering from OCD*, Yerushalmi explains.
Miriam has had very positive feedback from women who have
used this list that has been approved by Dr. Baruch Trappler, a Brooklyn
psychiatrist, for women with OCD. Women using this list have found themselves
infinitely happier and less stressed. They are empowered to be able to enjoy
this mitzvah as a time of attention to themselves, away from their daily
responsibilities.
Beautifully designed for privacy, this brochure includes the maximum and
minimum
time frames allotted for each ritual giving women the confidence that their preparations
were completed in a timely fashion.
Miriam is hopeful that women will enjoy using this
checklist. She hopes that mikvaos will do their best to have them available in
their preparation rooms so that every woman will be able to take advantage of
the relaxing peace of mind these checklists can provide.
