Chabad Lubavitch of Ulster County is hosting a garden party today, Sunday, to raise funds to build a mikvah, or ritual bath, organizers said.
"The remnants of Jewish mikvahs can be found in Israel, across the Middle East, and in fact throughout the diaspora," Rabbi Yitzchok Hecht said in a written release.
"The use of the mikvah has been misunderstood and nearly forgotten by many. However, its use and appreciation has seen a renaissance, and Ulster County is fortunate to be part of this rebirth."
The public is invited to attend the event this evening from 5-8 p.m. at the Congregation Agudas Achim, 254 Lucas Ave., in Kingston.
There will be the model of the mikvah and information on mikvahs in general, Hecht said.
Donations are $54; food and drink will be provided.
