Berman, Rochel
Rochel Berman is author of the highly-acclaimed Dignity Beyond Death (Urim, 2005), which has been a 2005 selection by the Association of Jewish Libraries as well as being named a finalist in the 2005 National Jewish Book Council Awards. She was a member of the Congregation Rosh Pinah Chevra Kadisha in Westchester, NY for seventeen years, and she is currently a member of the Boca Raton Synagogue Chevra Kadisha. She also serves as a consultant to the Congregation B’nai Torah Chevra Kadisha in Boca Raton, Florida. In 2004, Rochel narrated a Public Broadcasting System segment on Chevra Kadisha that aired on “Religion & Ethics Newsweekly.”
Mrs. Berman has directed national public relations campaigns for corporate and not-for-profit accounts. She coordinated the First International Gathering of Children Hidden During World War II and planned and promoted the Barnum Museum Centennial.
Mrs. Berman was a senior account executive for Lubicom, a New York communications agency. She also served as Director of Community Affairs at the Hebrew Home for the Aged at Riverdale, Director of the Judaica Museum, and as Director of Public Affairs for the United Synagogue of America, an organization serving two million constituents.
Mrs. Berman holds a master's degree in group work and community organization from Hunter College School of Social Work. She has written and lectured extensively. Her articles and essays have appeared in The New York Times, Hadassah Magazine, Voluntary Action Leadership, The Gerontologist, and Religious Education.
Most recently, Mrs. Berman held the post of Executive Director of the American and International Societies for Yad Vashem. She currently lives with her husband, George, in Boca Raton, Florida and together they direct the activities of the Society’s Florida Chapter.
